Summer is finally here at the National Trust's Killerton, near Exeter, which can only mean one thing - the programme of fun summertime events and activities for children and young families has begun! Every August Killerton House and Garden welcomes young families with loads of exciting events and activities. As well as this the Discovery Centre is open daily for fun family trails, badge making and art activities.
Visitor services officer Jen Waldron says: "August is such a great time here at Killerton, the garden is beautiful in its full summer bloom and there are so many fun events and activities to engage children and young families - it really is non-stop fun!"
This year's August summer holiday events are entitled Wicked Wednesdays and Explorer Thursdays! Kicking off the Wicked Wednesdays at Killerton is the Teddy Bears' Picnic, Wednesday, August 6, between 2pm and 4pm, which is inspired by the bears' hut, a rustic summer house in the garden which was once home to a real life black bear in the 1860s! Followed by Wizards and Dragons Afternoon on Wednesday, August 13, where children come dressed as wizards and hunt the legendary Killerton dragon! Other highlights include Pirates Afternoon on Wednesday, August 20, 2pm-4pm, which starts with a treasure hunt around the garden!
Highlights of the Explorer Thursday activities include Flesh Eaters and Giants on Thursday, August 7, 2pm-4pm, where children meet a story teller in role as a Victorian plant hunter and join in the hunt for the strange and unusual plants in Killerton garden. Also, Get Lost!, orienteering for families', on August 14, where the whole family can learn the basic skills of map reading in Killerton's parkland.
There really is something for everyone at Killerton this summer, so come and join in the fun!
