Known as 'the land of song', Wales has an internationally renowned choral tradition which the choir aims to preserve and promote. The Phoenix is a progressive choir with a wide and constantly growing repertoire, which includes Morden classics such as items recorded by Queen, West Life and Robbie Williams and also more traditional choral favourites like The Rhythm of life. They surprise audiences with unusual and complex pieces like Bohemian Rhapsody, or with a trilogy of African chants. However, their feet are firmly rooted in the Welsh tradition and all the programmes will include Welsh favourites such as Myfanwy, Gwyr Harlech, Calon Lan and Cwn Rhondda, all sung with the feeling and passion for which Welsh male voice choirs are renowned.
