Exeter based drama group Campion Players are now in rehearsal for their spring production of Laying the Ghost by Simon Williams, directed by Tony Carter. Once again the company is pleased to be taking their production to the Blackmore Theatre in Exmouth from May 1-3.
Laying the Ghost by Simon Williams is a clever, fast moving and witty play set in a retirement home for actors. Among the 'inmates' are Freda (a psychic) and 'birthday girl' Margo, the ex - wife of Sir Leo, an actor in the classic tradition. Margot and Leo had been famous in the Fifties for their portrayal of Romeo and Juliet. Margo's birthday is unexpectedly "hijacked" not only by Sir Leo and his current wife Lady Judy, but also his young 'protégé' Sadie, who is preparing for her own portrayal of Juliet. The stress of the whole situation proves a little too much for Leo, but somehow, with Freda's help, he manages to sort out matters between himself and his three 'women' - Margot finally receiving a most unexpected birthday 'present'!
If you have not been to the Blackmore Theatre you are sure to enjoy its intimate and friendly atmosphere.
For those of you who may not have seen them before, the Campion Players have been performing plays in and around the area for over forty years. Recent Campion Players productions at the Blackmore Theatre include Teachers by John Godber and The Maintenance Man by Richard Harris.
Performances of Laying the Ghost will start at 7.30pm each night. Tickets are all £6.50 and can be reserved by ringing Jim Wareing on 07913 073761 or Tony Carter on (01392) 209885. Tickets will also be on sale at the Blackmore Theatre during the week prior to the play.
