Local woman Nicky Clarke and local man Glen Herbert and his band Scream Blue Murder will be holding a live rock night at the Pheonix, Exeter Road, Exmouth, on Friday, March 28, starting at 9pm. The event is in aid of the Help for Heroes charity which has received much publicity in the press recently. The aim of the evening is to raise money and awareness of service personnel who have been injured in conflicts around the world.
Glen and his band recently played at the Black Horse in Taunton and raised nearly £700 to sponsor Cpl Marcus Selvey, who was severly injured in an explosion whilst serving in Afghanistan in May 2007. He and 300 other injured servicemen will be doing a sponsored bike ride "The Big Battlefield Bike Ride" from Portsmouth to France from May 26 to June 1 to raise funds for a swimming pool and gym complex at Headly Court, the tri-service rehabilitation centre at Leatherhead.
There will be a spare mike for those budding rock gods and divas who want to sing-a-long with the band. There is also a small raffle where prizes have been kindly donated by local Exmouth businessess, Thornton's Chocolates, Tony Price Sports, The Lite Clinic, Stokes, Taunton Leisure and Liz Gedrych.
Our servicemen deserve the very best facilities to help them recover, now you can do something to show you appreciate them.
