The cast of Exmouth Players' latest production, Rough Justice, are gearing up for opening night on Monday, September 25.

Rehearsals continue for the Exmouth Players production of Rough Justice, a courtroom drama written by Terence Frisby.

The play will take audiences on the journey of a couple, James and Jean Highwood, played by Mike and Anne Killoran, facing the consequences of their actions.

James, a popular and controversial TV presenter, takes his baby’s life; the baby having been born irreparably damaged.

The trial subjects the couple’s motives to a forensic cross-examination whilst at the same time posing questions about the legal system itself.

James decides to defend himself without any legal representation on a plea of manslaughter.

This brings James into conflict with the Judge, played by Tony Christopher, and the prosecutor, Margaret Casey QC, played by Pat Peters.

Giving evidence during the trial itself is PC Ramsden, played by Brian Lawless, and Doctors Simone Kerr and Hannah Radzinski, played by Margaret Bond and Robin Kanarek, no doubt adding their own professional opinions. Raymond Tongue plays the part of Jeremy Ackroyd, a solicitor.

Trevor Brice, of Exmouth Players, said: “By the end of the evening, whichever side of the argument you find yourself on, whether as a member of the jury or simply watching from the public gallery, we are sure you will have had your views challenged and maybe have shed a tear.

“The subject matter of this play is controversial and is one which makes you think. What would we do in such circumstances?

“A brilliantly, perceptive and absorbing insight into the love, the despair, the frailty and fortitude of the human spirit, makes this a ‘must-see’ drama.”

Rough Justice is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Ltd and runs from Monday, September 25, to Saturday, September 30, including a matinée performance on Saturday.

Tickets cost £10 and there are concessions for group bookings of 10 or more.

Anyone wanting to book their place is asked to call Ticketline 07484 509514.

The box office opens from Monday, September 18, between 9.30am – 1pm.

In addition, Exmouth Players are looking for two dancers aged between eight and 10 years to be in our December panto, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. Please email publicity@blackmoretheatre.co.uk
