Choir says its aim is to ‘offer sublime music, sung to a high standard’

The West Dorset chamber choir Cantamus will perform music ranging from Rachmaninov to The Beatles in Colyton on Sunday, July 14.

The choir aims to bring often unfamiliar sacred and secular music to a wider audience in the west Dorset and east Devon areas. It says: "Our mission is to offer sublime music, sung to a high standard, to those who are perhaps unaware of its sheer beauty and range of emotions."

Its summer programme takes its name, Gloria! From a song in the first half by 16th-century composer Christopher Tye. The programme also includes Blagosloven yesi, Ghospodi from Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil, three songs by Bruckner (Locus Iste, Ave Maria and Tota Pulchra es Maria and three of Elgar's Scenes from the Bavarian Highlands, as well as The Heavens are Telling by Haydn, folk song Yarmouth Fair, and an arrangement of Lennon and McCartney's Blackbird.

The concert is at St Andrew's Church, Colyton, on Sunday 14 July at 3.30pm. Tickets for each concert are £10 on the door, to include interval refreshments.
