There’s a Burns Night Celebration tonight (Thursday, January 25) at the Bicton Inn in Bicton Street from 8.30pm.

The evening – presented by Exmouth Shantyman Derek Brooks – celebrates the life and works of the great Scottish bard.

It will kick-off with a march of bagpipers and drummer in traditional Scottish dress, playing rousing Highland airs. The haggis will be addressed, and you’ll get the chance to sample a small portion.

Various musicians – including The Balcony Band – will lead a selection of traditional Scottish tunes and there will be some short recitals of Burns’ work, including, say the organisers, ‘some of his more amusing creations’.

Other Bicton Inn events coming up soon include Telstar – a ‘must-see’ young rock band from Exmouth playing a wide mix of covers (5pm, Saturday, January 27) and Fallen Cedars – an ‘uplifting’ indie folk/lounge/acoustic and electric band from the edge of Dartmoor (5pm, Sunday, January 28).
