THE ANNUAL late night shopping event is full of Christmas fun and seasonal good cheer and, no matter how young or old, promises something for everyone.

As the Christmas lights twinkle overhead, giving the town a magical glow, Budleigh's unique array of shops will open from 6pm until 9pm on Friday, December 5, giving you the chance to buy a plethora of inspired gifts for friends and family.

If you are one of the organised ones whose gifts are already wrapped and under the tree by then, the evening still has so much to offer because a host of entertainment has been planned.

With the High Street and Fore Street closed to traffic all evening, it gives visitors the chance to relax and browse or stock up on Christmas goodies.

The festive evening starts with a procession of light through the town, starting at the Public Hall, in Station Road, to Mackerel Square, where a traditional carol service will be held.

Last year local school pupils dressed in silver and gold for the parade.

Every year live music and traditional carols bring the town alive - making the evening a truly memorable event.

As in previous years, the youngsters from the town's St Peter's Primary School and neighbouring East Budleigh's Drake's Primary School will be making the evening extra special, entertaining and performing for the crowds with song and dance. Exmouth Town Band will be also playing, filling the air with traditional Christmas carols.

Seaton Majorettes have some baton-twirling extravaganza planned, while Exeter Morris Men will entertain the crowds with their energetic dancing.

If you have not had the chance to catch Budleigh Salterton Carnival Club's 2008 float, Showbiz Sparkle, it will be making an appearance on the night. The glitzy Hollywood-style float has scooped a number of prizes throughout this year's carnival season.

With the festive season firmly in swing, no evening would be complete without the great man himself - Father Christmas - who will be ready and waiting in his Rolle car park grotto to listen to the present wishes of youngsters.

And if you are still hungry for more, Budleigh Salterton Lions Club will be cooking up hot tasty burgers and bangers on the barbecue.
