SKILLED craftsman will meet next weekend to give a demonstration at National Trust property A la Ronde to show a historic artform is anything but tat.

The art of 'tatting' is the name for the practise of 'throwing a knot' - the term for sending knot from one thread to the other.

The form can be used to fashion almost anything, from jumpers and cardies to Christmas decorations and placemats.

Any thread that does not chaff is suitable, while tatting quickly was known to evoke the description that "it dripped off fingers as a stream of lace."

Members of the club the Ring of Tatters will be at A la Ronde, in Summer Lane, on Saturday (July 26) from 11am to demonstrate the skill.
