The great Acker Bilk will perform at the Exmouth Pavilion on Wednesday, July 1, at 7.30pm.

He received his MBE for services to the music industry from Her Majesty the Queen in 2001, as well as a BMI award in 2004 as a songwriter for performances exceeding four million of his number Stranger on the Shore, BBC Jazz Awards in 2005 for his unique contribution to Jazz in the UK. Also, in 2005, Acker accepted an Honorary Master of Arts Degree from Bristol University.

Besides these, of course, are his awards for recordings and sales of Stranger on the Shore in the 1960's and onwards and Aria in the 1970's and Jazz numbers such as Summer Set, Creole Jazz and In a Persian Market - too numerous to list here!

Acker, who reached the magnificent age of 80 in January has been performing for 59 years, touring the world many times and, although pacing himself now, still tours with his Paramount Jazz Band.

Tickets are priced at £17 and £16 for concessions and can be purchased from the box office on (01395) 222477 or you can book online at
