The Exmouth Players present The Odd Couple, a Comedy by Neil Simon, at the Blackmore Theatre from June 18 - 23.

Evening performances commence at 7.30pm, wiht a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm, writes Trevor Brice.

Neil originally wrote this play for men. This version was originally thought to be the funniest plays every written. However, the female version written by Neil in 1986, which we will be performing, may be a little less known. On the other hand, this version is even more funnier. In a shabby apartment in New York, Olive Madison (played by Pat Cowey) and a group of friends meet once a week to play Trivial Pursuit and exchange the latest gossip.

On this particular evening, Florence Unger (played by Fin O’Leary) arrives late. She has just been dumped by her husband. The girls then talk among themselves, fearful of what Florence may do. They mostly fear the worst when Florence goes to the bathroom. With this in mind, Olive invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Olive and Florence have very different personalities. Where Olive is messy, untidy, and unconcerned about the state of her apartment. Florence is obsessively clean, tidy, and obsessed with hygiene. Olive’s easy-going outlook on life soon clashes with Florence’s highly-strung neurotic tendencies, testing their friendship to the limit. Olive then organises a double date with the Costazuela brothers; Manalo (played by Mark Blaber) and Jesus (not pronounced in the way it is spelt in this comedy, played by Martin Moore), who happen to live in the same apartment block. What happens then? You will have to book to find out.

This amateur production of The Odd Couple is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.
