A series highlight is a return performance from pianist An-Ting Chang, who received a standing ovation for her recital at the church last year.

Running from 12.30pm to 1.15pm, all the concerts are free, with a retiring collection for the artist’s expenses and a project within the church. Coffee and tea are served in the hall from noon.

An-Ting Chang performs next Wednesday (January 24).

A Glenorchy concert spokesman said: “Last year at one of our lunchtime concerts, pianist An-Ting Chang astounded the audience by the brilliance of her playing, so much so that at the end of her concert the entire audience rose to their feet and gave her a standing ovation.”

“In all the years these concerts have been running, this has never happened before.”

An-Ting was born in Taiwan where, at the National University, she majored in chemistry with a minor in drama theatre, and then she obtained a MMus and a PhD in piano performance at London’s Royal Academy of Music. Now based in Bristol, she’s regularly appeared on the national and international concert circuit in London, Newbury, Deal, Berlin, Banff in Canada and Taiwan. She’s been featured and interviewed on BBC Radio 3, and the Bristol Post has described her as a ‘distinguished artiste’.

“If you like live classical piano music her forthcoming concert is one not to be missed,” said the Glenorchy spokesman.

The Glenorchy’s concert series continues with St David’s Singers, conducted by Mark Perry (January 31), the Sidmouth Orchestral Club (February 7), mezzo soprano Iryna Linytska and pianist Sam Baker (February 14), pianist Tim Othen (February 21), soprano Jackie Palmer and pianist Wensleigh Palmer (February 28), the Beacon Piano Trio (March 7), Quorum – comprising soprano Janet MacDonald, clarinettist Phil Bonser and pianist Margaret Chave (March 14), guitarist Samantha Muir (March 21), pianist Ruth Smit (March 28), violinist Elizabeth Holman and pianist Andrew Wilson (April 4), pianist Joyce Clarke (April 11), organist Andrew Millington (April 18) and pianist Duncan Honeybourne (April 25).
