Yarnall and Trapnell land East Devon triumph in the most challenging of conditions!

The Seniors played their better ball teams of two stableford competition last Monday, writes Paul Willoughby.
The conditions were almost as bad as they get – a very strong south westerly wind though mercifully not quite as much rain as forecast.
A fortnight or so ago, 78 players put their names down for the competition thinking and hoping for warm autumn sun with a gentle breeze; they would have no idea what was to face them on the day – a howling gale with the flag posts bending.
It was a real struggle and most of the contestants, especially those not playing so well, would rather be anywhere but on the golf course; even those long put off indoor painting jobs might have been preferable!
However some hardy players made some good scores and the leaders were (handicaps in brackets): 1, Steve Yarnall (22) and Mike Trapnell (12) with 40 points; 2, Bob Harriott (11) and Robin Grenyer (18), 39; 3, Brian Welch (15) and Keith Glover (24), 37; 4, Ian Drummond (19) and Bill Ficken (17), 36; 5, Ian Wilson (13) and Danny Barrett (What, him again?) (12) 36; 6, Stewart Tucker (13) and David Matthews (16) with 36; 7, Bill Coles (16) and Jeremy Browne (15), also with 36 points.
There was a two’s pot of £72 to be shared between Ian Wilson and Danny Barrett for their two on the 10th – right into the wind. Well done, you two; as well as coming fifth that made their day well worthwhile!
