Always a popular competition, the annual Woodbury Park Captains’ team versus the Presidents’ team match took place with the usual enthusiastic support, writes Carole Pye.

The teams consist primarily of past captains taking on a presidents select team.

The captains’ team has won this event only once in the 10 years it has been played, so they were delighted to come in with an overall victory of four-and-a-half to two-and-a-half victory.

Sadly, the president, Sir John Evans, had to withdraw at the last minute due to sickness and missed this entertaining event. The day concluded with a very enjoyable meal in The Greg Norman suite.

With a better back nine, Taff Lewis and Ralph Karkeek (44) won the weekend competition, a ‘Four Ball Better Ball’, nudging Ken Vine and Tony Taylor into second place.

The midweek stableford competition was led by Adrian Greenslade with a very respectable 50 points, followed by Steve Jarman (44).

The seniors’ weekly roll-up was a Texas Scramble and it produced some very close scoring.

Derek Knight, Ian Scott and Robert Hayman (62.2) just held off Roy Barber, Ian Marvin and Andrzej Sobczak who came in with 62.7.
