Whitlock does well at Grand Prix event - then has a hitch with Santa trousers!

Neil Whitlock was in action at the first indoor athletics Grand Prix run at the National Indoor Athletics Centre based in UWIC (University of Wales in Cardiff).
The event was very well attended by athletes from Wales and England with a very strong contingent from the University of Exeter.
Whitlock was running for the South West Veterans AC and took part in the senior 60m and the 60m ‘Santa Sprint’.
He made a good start to the 60m, this very much down to his training routine of running with a 17kg sled!
However, he found the younger athletes – some as many as twenty years his junior, pulling away over the later stages of the race.
Whitlock finished in a time of 8.38 seconds.
In the Santa Sprint Whitlock’s bid was hit when his outfit began to slip! However he managed to hang on sufficiently to complete the race!
Whitlock said: “I enjoyed the events. In the 60m I clearly still have some work to do. My time was what I considered to be okay, but I’d like to do better. As for the Santa race, it’s not easy trying desperately to hang on to your slipping Santa trousers when involved in a sprint to the finish line!”
