Brixington United Under-10s were 3-2 winners when they met Colyton in an Exeter and District Youth League game.

United went into the game full of confidence, having earlier beaten Seaton 6-1, but this was a closer contest in which Laurence Bainbridge was solid at the back throughout.

The opening goal came from a move started by Harper Phillips whose early ball sent Rian Powley away and he in turn found Ryan McCann and his neat one-two with Harry Batten set him up to fire Blues into the lead.

Josh Lawrence fought for every ball in midfield and, when the opposition did get sight of goal, Taylor Westaway made a great save at the feet of the Colyton striker. The lead was doubled with Batten again providing the assist for a second McCann goal. Josh Lawrence made it 3-0, turning home a McCann cross, but Colyton hit back with a goal of their own and United trooped off at half-time with a 3-1 lead.

In the second half, United’s Laurence Bainbridge made some terrific defensive clearances and Willem Stortenbeker began to impose himself in the midfield area.

Harper Phillips was called into action at the back to protect the keeper and Brixington’s defence did well under renewed Colyton pressure. United did concede another goal late on, but then, thanks to a superb late save Taylor Westaway, United saw the game out to bag a morning’s win double.
