Webb nets consolation as Exe go down on road.

Exe were beaten 3-1 at Barnes, Hounslow and Ealing, writes Bridget Culvert.
Exe made a bright start forcing at least four penalty corners in the first 20 minutes. The new rules came into play with players being forced to the halfway line at corners, but no goals came despite the extra pressure on the Barnes HE defence.
Despite some exciting attacking play the sides remained goalless at half-time. In the second half Exe lost their way at times and were forced back by mounting attacks from the home side who eventually took a 38th minute lead with a deflected shot.
A second goal, followed from a strike at the top of the circle deflecting past Suzy Eagles in goal, but this time from an Exe defender instead!
Exe refused to conceded and battled back well with some great attacking play being shown by Kirsty Cruden and Helen Johnson.
The determination by all the Exe players was great to see even when it unfortunately led to a two minute break from pitch-play for Jackie Shute after some choice words in reaction to the umpire’s call!
A confusing yellow card for Helen Johnson didn’t help Exe’s plight but even when a third goal went in for Barnes HE, they still tried to take the game to the London side.
The reward for the Exe endeavour arrived in the 68th minute when Linda Webb volleyed the ball into the opposition’s net to make it 3-1. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to save the game but there are some definite positives to come away with and the Exe team are keen to set things right this week ready for Firebrands on Sunday.
