Waite shows improvement at Ilton airfield races

EXMOUTH based cycling club Cycle Sport Dynamo hosted their very first "audax" event recently.
These events are becoming increasingly popular, bridging the gap between pure leisure riding and racing.
Riders are given a route description at the start, and set off at their own pace over a route, individually or in groups, with café and refreshment stops along the way. Exmouth’s event was christened the “Jurassic Roller Coaster” audax as it followed the coast along to Sidmouth and Beer before swinging inland toward Cullompton, then completing a circular 112 km route through the Devon lanes back to Exmouth seafront.
Sixty nine riders took part, and most finished despite the initial part of the ride going up some of the fiercest climbs in East Devon. At the top of the final mega climb, organiser Steve “Fred” Medlock was in Jurassic mode to encourage riders as they reached the feed and watering station at the top.
Club riders have been achieving some racing success recently too, with Andy Waite gaining a fourth, then a second, and most recently a first place at the circuit racing events held at Ilton airfield.
