JACK Shoulder might be a tender 15 years of age but he is already a kite surfing instructor at the Edge Watersports centre in Exmouth. Last weekend young Jack travelled to Barrow in Furness to compete in his first event and came back a winner, taking the Junior competition amongst a strong field. That success has already begun to pay dividends with several sponsorship packages coming together for him, including one with leading Kite manufacturer Naish.Shoulder was originally a talented young gymnast before taking to water sports and is considered by many to have a real chance to become a force in the sport. Speaking on behalf of young Shoulder, Steph Bridge from Edge Watersports who holds the World Race title, said: "Exmouth is home to many Olympic sailors with many generations of professional sailors making it to the top of their sport. "With Kitesurfing still the fastest growing sport in the world, Exmouth has again been put on the map- this time for kitesurfing. "Over the last few years I have been coming back to my home town with Podium places and now it is time for the younger generation to make their mark. We have some of the best conditions in the country in Exmouth and the standard of riding keeps improving." Many of the kitesurfers travel during the winter to improve and push their level. Also sponsored by Edge, Ned Taylor, age 19 entered the Pro's division. Ned secured a healthy sixth position in a fleet of professional men many of whom normally compete on the world PKRA Tour. Nicky Rudd entered her first event and secured a fourth position which is again an incredible result, having only been kitesurfing fro 9 months.l Exmouth is holding the second round of the BKSA Race tour over June 28 and 29. The event takes place on Exmouth seafront. For more information of how to get to get involved or if you want to sponsor any of these young kitesurfers please contact HQ Edge Watersports www.edgewatersports.com or (01395) 222551.
