DARTS: THE PRELIMINARY round of the Exmouth Darts League Knock-Out Team Cup saw 3rd Division Beacon Vaults take on 1st Division Dart Vaders.

On paper this was certainly a daunting draw for the Division Three outfit given that last season they came bottom of the section.

However, during the summer months some new players were recruited and that, together with plenty of practice, seems to have resulted in a change of fortunes for the team.

The contest saw Vaults snatch an early lead courtesy of skipper Mark Waldron with a fabulous 112 check-out.

Thereafter the match was nip and tuck and after eight legs was tantalizingly balanced at 4-4.

But it was in the final game that the experience of the Dart Vaders eventually shone through and they won the match 5-4.

Vaults' skipper Waldron said: "It was great to have a chance at playing a Division One team even though we lost. I hope the team can take the positives from the match and realise how much we have improved in just six months.
