Success was not to be for Budleigh ladies last week. In a match against Exonia, only Jane Hincks' rink of Lorna Autton, Bunty Hudson and Dorothy MacConville won, 15-12. The other two rinks lost.
Success was not to be for Budleigh ladies last week. In a match against Exonia, only Jane Hincks' rink of Lorna Autton, Bunty Hudson and Dorothy MacConville won, 15-12. The other two rinks lost. Marilyn Jackson, Audrey Taylor, Dawn Graham and Jean Coates (14-20); Lilian Grainger, Avis Bartlett Jennifer Mahon and Brenda Dixon (7-25). In a game against Madeira Ladies at home, one rink won and one lost, giving an overall result in favour of the visitors 41-56. The teams were Jennifer Mahon, Avis Bartlett, Diane Dixon and Dawn Graham (28-18), Margaret Avery, Dorothy MacConville, Jane Hincks and Jean Coates (13-38).In the Foxlands League, Budleigh played South Hams. Ann Cottle again led her team to a victory, managing to win by two shots and giving Budleigh the only two points for that game. Her team of Marilyn Jackson, Pat Harvey and Diane Dixon finished 21-19. The other home team - Lorna Autton, Joan Evans, Dawn Graham and Dianzee Lowe - also had a close game, which they lost 17-19.Both away teams lost. Scores were Lilian Grainger, Avis Bartlett, Jane Hincks and Jean Coates (15-23), Audrey Taylor, Dorothy MacConville, Brenda Dixon and Joan Shaw (18-35).In the club championship two long and tight games were played, the one between Dawn Graham and Joan Shaw resulting after 26 ends in a 21-19 win for Graham. Cottle won against Marilyn Jackson.There was disappointment for Budleigh when Joan Shaw and Dianzee Lowe played Jan Roberts and Pat Harris of Madeira in the east section county pairs final. There were many close ends with Madeira hanging on to the shot despite Budleigh having four or five second woods. The final result was 27-18 to Madeira. In the Symes, Robinson & Lee Evening League, Budleigh Hawks were beaten on both rinks by Budleigh Buzzards. After 15 ends the Hawks, eight shots ahead on aggregate, appeared to be on course for a six-point victory.Over the last three ends the Buzzards' triples, skipped by Ralph Lawson and Rod Davidson, scored 14 shots to win, 38-32.Madeira Reds defeated the Falcons 38-31 but were denied maximum points by Terry Kelly's triple (21-18). In a home, two-rink friendly, Padbrook Park were defeated 45-30.Harry Vanstone's side, facing an eight-shot deficit after 15 ends, finished strongly to win 19-18. On the second rink, Dennis Graham, Jim Letten, Richard Cooper and Gerry Roberts led from the start and cruised to a 26-12 victory.In a second two-rink friendly, the home side fared less well against Madeira and lost 33-45. Gerry Roberts' rink of Stuart Watson, George Vicarage and Rob Jerrard drew 21-all against Francis Newton but John Flockhart's side proved too strong on the second rink and won 24-12.
