The in form team of Sally Underwood, Lisa Tinsley and Leslie Dawson were the clear winners of Ladies Captain’s Day at East Devon Golf Club last week, writes Helen Chivers.
This years competition was a three ball team with two scores to count but with a twist or two… the par three 13th tricked unsuspecting players with the flag and the hole not in the same place on green – this untraditional set up meant playing to the flag from the tee was not good and the players had to seek out the hole some distance away to score!
There was also a secret double point hole which was only known to the ladies’ captain and made a big difference to the leader board when the bonus points were added on.
Sally, Lisa and Leslie mastered the rules and the fast, bouncy fairways on a beautiful summers day to claim victory over the large field with an impressive 95 stableford points
They were four points clear of the second place team of Sally Shackleton, Jo Goldsworthy and Julie Sampson (91 points) with Jean Quinn, Carole Brailey and Lea Finding a point further back in third place.
The team of Patricia Trevarthen, Alison Price and Barbara Middleditch took fourth place on countback with 89 points, closely followed by the team of Alison and Emma Corney and Eilidh Cameron in fifth.
The restricted ladies played a nine hole individual stableford for the Dolphin Trophy and the winner was Janet Brunwin with a level par 18 points with Julie Jago second on 16 points.
