Topsham St James Under-11s defeated Sandford by 16 runs in a Bradley’s East Devon league match.

Batting first, Luca Pym and William Fox made a good start putting on 22 runs when both opening bats departed in quick succession.

This began a mini batting collapse with Peter Doyle, Niall Finn and Yaar Safra all returned to the pavilion with just two more runs added to the total.

The fight back was launched by Harry Meadows and Alex Rowe as both reached total so f 30 before retiring with their wickets intact.

Josh Drew and Christopher Burton finished off the innings, both scoring runs in the last over, leaving Topsham on 128 for the loss of five wickets.

The Sandford reply was troubled in the early stages by a superb opening spell from Harry Meadows and Alex Rowe who reduced Sandford to 28-3 after seven overs.

Pym and Drew each claimed a wicket before Sandford launched a recovery.

However, some good fielding by Christopher Burton and the rest of the Topsham St James team restricted the flow of runs and the Sandford innings closed with their score on 112, leaving the Saints as clear and deserved winners.
