EXMOUTH Sea Angling Association members Martin Pearce and Si Boeree were shocked this week to somehow catch the same fish! The trouble is that neither could honestly claim the catch as theirs! The two fishing pals were fishing for thornback ray off the North Devon coast when Martin got a superb bite and struck into a rather good fish.Unfortunately, the fish was quickly lost as Pearce's line got caught in rocks and was cut through.Within seconds, Boeree got an equally hefty bite and after a struggle to pull his fish free from the deep kelp and rocks it was finally beached, only to reveal it wasn't a Ray at all. Worse still, the fish was still attached to Pearce's lost rig from just moments before!Fairly hooked, fairly lost and fairly landed, but who's fish was it - no one's really, and indeed no problem too boot either! The two ESAA members quickly photographed the fine 10lb starry smooth hound they had caught between them and returned it safe and sound to the sea, as is the usual practice for the club.
