There was an intriguing and important skittles match played at Budleigh Salterton Football Club last Thursday evening, where a top of the table clash in the Woodbury Skittles Association League A meant the victors would be guaranteed the lead in the title race for at least another week, write SpursTom.

Perhaps the biggest factor being the battle for bragging rights at the club itself, Cock Robins (Dave Everest, Pete Doble, Kevin Sellick, Julian Taylor, Paul Ford, Keith Wood, Darren Everest and Steven Grainger) verses The Robins (Steve Howarth, Scott Howarth, Gary Lowe, Kevin Hill, Mark Hartnell, Adrian Lugger, Pete Howarth and Roger Pollard).

More than just pride was at stake! Having won four legs The Robins led by 35 pins then the Cock Robins improved by winning one and drawing another of the remaining four legs, but finally succumbed by 47 pins to go down 432 to 479.

The star of the night was a player generally known and respected, not only in Devon for his exploits on the football field, Kevin Hill, closely followed by team mate Gary Lowe who included a ‘flopper’ in his score.

Best for Cock Robins was Paul Ford a pin ahead of Dave Everest.
