Exe III were edged out of the Devon Cup, beaten 3-1 at Plym Valley.

Plym Valley 3 – 1 Exe III

A youthful, but nonetheless most enthusiastic, team of ten travelled for the cup tie.

Despite being a player light Exe made a bright start but the experience of the hosts showed as they soaked up the pressure and hit Exe on the break twice clinically to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

Fifteen minutes from time, skipper Emma Dupain rifled in a cracking shot to set up a tense finish, but the home side scored a match winning third from a penalty corner inside the final five minutes.

Exe battled superbly throughout. Becky Fagg and Emma Dupain worked tirelessly in the middle of the pitch.

The defensive line up of Becky Goodwill, Rosie Barrett, Anna Karakusevic and Nicole were solid at the back and Laura Allen and Bridie Marlow gave sterling performances linking midfield and forward play, with Bridie unfortunate not to pull a goal back when she hit the post.
