SUN cream, visors and hats have been “de rigueur” as the outdoor season has begun to warm up in more ways than one, writes Mary Ann Dowrick.

A Madeira trio skipped by Sue Harriott with Liz Smerdon and Angela Denner took the honours from Sidmouth and scorched through to the finals of the County triples to be played at Budleigh Salterton next month.

They will not however be meeting the other Madeira team as Budleigh Salterton ladies poured cold water on the hopes of Skip Eileen Bagley with Kate Andrews and Deirdre Aldridge in a hard fought contest.

Meanwhile, four of Madeira’s top ladies, Liz Smerdon, Sue Harriott, Jan Roberts and Liz Healy, were among those selected to represent Devon in a Johns Trophy match against Gloucestershire.

In a hotly competitive encounter Devon emerged winners thanks to the sterling efforts of our ladies and their team mates from elsewhere in the County.
