The latest event held by the Exe Table Tennis Club proved to be a popular show for all concerned.

SAM Smith swept to victory in a thoroughly enjoyable Halloween themed skills evening recently at Exe TT Club.

Over thirty competitors took part in this skills evening, some dressed for the occasion in full Halloween costume!

There were six activities all designed to improve table tennis skills for all players.

The activities included accuracy tests for serving and smashing, reaction tests with organiser Martin Atkin dropping a wooden pole and competitors had to catch it before it hit the ground.

There was a co-ordination test using a mini table tennis bat to sustain rallies, it was very difficult, but a favourite of most players.

Competitors accumulated points over the six activities and all scores were added together to produce an overall total. Surprisingly, one of the oldest competitors, Mark Tregale, was runner-up with 62!

However the stand-out winner was young Sam Smith with the superb tally of 71 points.

This was Martin Atkin’s first solo organised tournament. It went really well with all players getting involved and enjoying a very different form of club night.
