In the Grace Mathews Top Club Quarter finals played at Newton Abbot,

Pat Harris had a comfortable win in the 2 wood Singles match-up, out-pointing her opponent convincingly 15-4.

However, this was not enough to secure an overall team victory against Torbay as this proved to be the only Madeira success.

The fours lost 13-22 and both the Pairs and Triples were unlucky to lose on the final ends, by the narrowest of margins, with Angela Denner and partner Liz Smerdon going down 16-17 and Elizabeth Haynes, Pat Boman and Annette Flockhart losing out by a score of 15-18.

On a brighter note In the Over 55 Pairs played at Bovey Tracey, Sue Harriott partnered by her sister Christine Macaulay, battled through two rounds and will now proceed to the finals at Sir Francis Drake Club, Plymouth on September 28.

In the Over 70s Pairs Eileen Bagley and Pat Harris took their Honiton opponents to the wire before suffering an agonising defeat by a single shot.

In the DCLBA Club Officers Section played at Madeira, Captain Carole Worth, Secretary Jean Healey, Vice-Captain Jenny Smith and Amy Rose Team Manager, Liz Smerdon represented the home club.

Smerdon enjoyed a successful afternoon and will now go on to play in the finals at the end of the month against Joan Martin of Crediton.

In the Club Ladies Pairs, Nikki Fiddimore and Brenda Marks were beaten by Jacky Howle and Jean Moodie and as the Club Championship continues, Liz Smerdon beat Angela Denner 21-17 to advance to the next round. .

Finally, In the NBTL, Madeira were victors on one rink and that proved sufficient to secure an overall win over Exonia and a valuable four points for the club in this league.
