Charter boats skippers are reporting sporadic sport this week, those venturing out to the distant wrecks, including Brixham based Spot On are finding pollack and a few Cod, although the size is only average.
Shande out of Exmouth the Skerries banks and found Plaice for its anglers. To the east of the region, again the wrecks are producing with the inshore reefs only giving up a few Bream and Bass amongst the Pout and Poor Cod.
Shore anglers seem to be faring a little better with the Smoothhounds still turning up on our beaches, Mackerel are here one day and not the next, a real lottery.
Bass anglers out and about on our beaches, rock and estuaries are catching plenty on lures with father and daughter duo of Tony White getting amongst them. Tony took his daughter Maisie out searching for Mullet with Maisie landing her first on a micro paddle tail lure.
Damion Fryer, who normally fishes for Trout on lures, visited the Exe for an early morning session and fishing with an 18gram jig landed five before breakfast, all were returned. A reminder that there is a minimum size limit for Bass of 42cm and that there is a daily limit of two fish per angler.
The latest match at Spring Pons, Rocombe was fished last weekend with a top weight of 52lbs 6oz going to Jason Fay on peg 9, with Steve Barrel weighing in 48lbs 2 oz from peg 4 and third place going to Elliot Fay with 40lbs 3oz. Pellet was the successful bait in all cases, with some fishing it on the pole and others a waggler.
Kennick Flyfishers fished the latest round of their Snowbee Top Rod competition at the beautiful Clatworthy reservoir in the Brendon Hills. Eighteen anglers fished the event and top rod on the day was junior Alex Venn with five fish for a weight of14lbs 15oz, second spot going to Alex Hoare just 1lb 1oz behind, with third spot going to Andy Gooding.
The Prettiest fish of the week goes to all round angler Saleem Ali, who fished an evening session using lobworms for bait and landed several fish up to 2lbs.
The fish of the month competition is still running with one prize up for grab each month from our kind sponsors, either a goody bag from Sidewinder Lures or a 24-hour ticket from Newbarn Angling Centre. Please get your reports and pictures in to johnsherlockfish@gmail.com
