Shaw to face Dixon and Lowe meets Lowman in Budleigh ladies’ semi-finals

The weather interrupted the games over the weekend, on Friday the ladies were due to play Starcross in the league which has had to be re-arranged.

On Sunday, club president, Dorothy MacConville, hoped to have members play a drive followed by a tea.

However, due to the rain the day changed to a tea party with a quiz which was enjoyed by about 36 members.

Over £100 was raised for the ‘Devon Freewheelers’ and thanks was given by captain John Vanstone to the president for her generosity.

The ladies’ competitions are now well on the way, in the Championship, the semi-finals are to be Joan Shaw versus Diane Dixon and Dianzee Lowe takes on Chris Loman.

In the two-wood competition Ann Vincent has already booked her final berth and she now awaits the outcome of the semi-final meeting between Mo Bond and Joan Shaw.

In the three-wood quarter-finals there’s a match to come between Diane Dixon and Joan Cowing with the winner playing Joan Shaw in the semi-final and the other semi-final sees Chris Loman again meet Dianzee Lowe.

On Saturday (August 1) the club are holding an Open Day from 10am to 2pm and all comers will be made most welcome, bowls is a tremendous sport for all ages and it is hopes as many as possible will get along to the Open day to see just what the sport, and the club, has to offer.
