Anne Serle was the winner of the prestigious Clinton Centenary Vase competition at East Devon Golf Club last week and became the first woman to win the trophy since the Vase was presented to the club by its President, Lord Clinton, on the occasion of the club’s centenary in 2002, writes Helen Chivers.
This annual stableford competition is open to all members of the club and this year attracted an entry of 152 players.
Anne clearly enjoyed her Late May Bank Holiday round of golf as she played four under her handicap to record an impressive 40 points.
However, she wasn’t they only player enjoying the conditions as she won on countback from another lady, Joy Wisdom, and Thomas Peters.
Leigh Jones was the best of three players who recorded three under par rounds of 39 points, taking fourth place ahead of Charles Stafford and David Harrison. While four players were a shot further back on 38 points - Robert Barnes, Martin Hyde, Alistair Mackenzie Ross and Steve Ross.
