EXMOUTH Sea Angling Association held their annual RNLI Charity Shield fishing competition in what turned out to be horrendous south-westerly gales which made conditions un-fishable at the Budleigh Salterton venue.

As the competition was purely in aid of the RNLI, the 30 or so members endured the elements, fishing for a couple of hours until the event was abandoned when conditions became simply too dangerous. Despite the early finish, everyone was more than happy to pay up their £5 entry fee and dig deep for raffle tickets.

With an obvious no catch situation, the club's RNLI Shield will now be incorporated into a fixture later in the year but those present still managed to put together a sum of £322, which included a £50 donation from Weldtec Ltd.
