THE DCLBA triples competition got underway this week with 9 teams from Madeira taking part, four at Crediton and 5 at Madeira, writes Jenny Smith.Apart from a tendency to knock each other out of the competition, the early rounds were notable for the number of extra ends following good and close games. At Madeira, Liz Healy and her team were knocked out on an extra end by Sue Harriott's team. Sue went on to lose on an extra end to Sandie Cox who skipped Christine Macaulay and Ann Bellamy. At Crediton, Pat Boman and her team of Janet Allen and Jean Bridge knocked out fellow Madeira members skipped by Jean Healey on another extra end before losing to a Crediton team in the next round. Annette Flockhart and her team were also knocked out in their first round on an extra end.Sandie Cox and her team won through their third round against Topsham for a place in the Section final at Topsham on Friday. However, they were very disappointed to lose their first round that day to a Newton Abbot team. There have been two ladies-only fixtures played this week.Firstly, three rinks were played against Gloucester VP Assn, alongside half a dozen rinks of men. Madeira won on all three rinks, but on two only by one shot and the third, with skip Pat Boman supported by May Dyson, Betty Roberts and Ann Doidge, by 20 shots to 14 for an overall win of 60 shots to 52. Captain Carole Worth's team of Debbie Fox, Jill Honnor and Mollie Cooper won by 21 shots to 20. Annette Flockhart and her team of Madeleine Marriott, Jan Worsfold and Vee Bevan won by 19 shots to 18.
