Running to the wedding!

Most people expect to only get married once in their life, but Exmouth Harriers couple, Adam Miller and Carly Audritt, managed to have two wedding ceremonies in two days, writes Ellie Sutcliffe.
On Sunday March 31, the pair tied the proverbial knot at an official ceremony at Courtlands House, Lympstone.
Before this, however, they had a less-official, impromptu wedding at Killerton Parkrun on the Saturday morning!
Both are regular faces at the event, having completed well over 50 runs between them at the meetings.
With the Parkrun being renowned for its friendly and supportive atmosphere to runners, some of the regular volunteers decided that it would be a nice idea to mark the occasion with a pre-run ceremony!
The run director had prepared some costumes, including a veil for Carly, a top-hat for Adam and a vicar’s cassock for himself. A running-themed ‘Pastor Party’ ceremony took place and then Adam was instructed to start at the back of the group of 100+ runners, with Carly at the front, and he was to take this last opportunity to chase his girl!
The starting horn sounded and Adam had some work to do to catch up to his runaway bride! Once he caught her, the couple completed the run arm in arm and had confetti thrown over them at the finish line, (well, actually it was bird seed, as this is National Trust parkland, so only eco-friendly confetti is allowed!) A small scale wedding reception then followed in the form of tea and scones in the Killerton tearooms with several other stalwart Parkrunners and Harriers in attendance.
Adam and Carly are a terrific couple and a welcome asset to the club and everyone at the Harriers would like to wish them well for their future together. And all signs are good that it will be a long and happy future, if the examples of other couples in the club are anything to go by!
Dave and Carol Eveleigh celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary on April 8, having met in 1983 (incidentally, the year Carly was born!) when they were both members of the Exeter Harriers club. They featured in an article in the Exmouth Journal at the time entitled ‘Runner Will Wed Runner!’ Although with Carol being a sprinter and Dave a long-distance man, they did not have many opportunities to race together as Adam and Carly do. There are also several other couples in the club who are married or in long-term partnerships, many of whom met through the sport, if not at the club itself. So come along to the Exmouth Harriers on Tuesday and Thursday nights to get fit, make friends and, who knows, possibly meet your life partner!
