Exmouth Cockles took 26 youngsters to represent the club at Under 13 level in a tournament in Brittany at Triennial over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The two sides, which for the purpose of the competition were named Crusaders and Excalibur, ultimately shared 3rd place in the Plate competition when they were drawn to play each other and 'tied' the contest one try each.

Coach Dean Watkins, speaking to the Herald via mobile phone, said: "The boys have done ever so well. It's a huge tournament with 1300 youngsters involved and, given that we have had such a good season anyway, to come out here and take part in something like this is very much the icing on the cake. The facilities are simply magnificent, the standard of rugby is very good and the weather has been glorious. Trips like this are ideal in terms of helping to develop the bond between the youngsters.
