Exmouth under-10s bounced back from a mauling at the hands of hosts taunton to win the morning’s second encounter thanks to a four try haul.

EXMOUTH Under-10s travelled to Taunton last Sunday for a brace of matches against the Somerset side.

The outcome of the matches was a loss and a win which, given that the hosts had sufficient numbers to field two fresh sides, speaks volumes for the effort put in by the young Cockles.

The opening game, played in the pouring rain, saw the hosts start brightly and a one-sides encounter ended 25-0 to the Somerset side.

The hosts then put out a whole new side but the young Cockles rose to the challenge quite superbly.

Aided by a pre-match pep talk from the coaching staff, the youngsters dished up a totally different performance than had been seen in the opening game.

There was a noticeable increase in team play and aggression and the passing, and indeed keeping, of the ball was much better.

Some great rucking and driving through the home sides defence by Harvey Beatty and Jed Reid with enterprising runs from Ashley Parsons, Kyle Webb and Sam Gooding, coupled with tremendous, and effective, tackling from Charlie Mears and Rhys Daniels, led to tries from Aaron Jones, Eddie Hooper, James Bridge and Nick Eveleigh. Taunton could only reply once and so the Cockles emerged 20-5 winners.

This coming Sunday Topsham are the visitors to Exmouth and, if the young Cockles show the commitment levels they showed in their second game at Taunton, it will certainly be an entertaining encounter, one not to miss!
