Withycombe Under-9s defeated Honiton 8-4 in a well contested fixture.
Owing to limited numbers in the home camp it was decided to play just the one game and that meant for plenty of changes for the large withy squad.
The first score came after Honiton had been on the attack! Withy won turn-over ball and Tom Real raced clear to score.
The second score came from a similar source as, from another Honiton attack, Will Jones made the initial move and the phase ended with Will Cooper running to the line. It was soon 3-0 courtesy of a Ben Wilkinson try.
Honiton were next to score but Withy were soon back in charge and, after several phase of attacking play, young Real crossed for his second try.
Thomas Humphrey was next to score, his try a trademark effort, a mazy run that saw him split open the host defence. Honiton scored again but Withy went into the break leading 5-2.
The second half was a much closer affair with Honiton flexing their superior size and muscle despite aggressive Withy defence to hold them at bay.
On the counter, Withy camped out on the Honiton line for a period before well worked rucking allowed the hard working Matthew Edworthy to pick up and step over.
Honiton bagged a coupe of scores themselves before Cooper outpaced the home defence twice more to score I then corners and seal an 8-4 success.
Then Withy Man of the Match awards went to Eddie Warlow for outstanding tackling and to the ever-improving Sam Diprose for great running and all round involvement.
