Withycombe Under-8s enjoyed their first ever tour when they travelled to North Cornwall.
Staying just outside Bude a good time was had by the whole party, with fun, games and some excellent rugby.
On Saturday the youngsters were at Bideford for four matches. The home side proved to be a fast, strong and physical side. However, the young Withies were not going to let the seasons hard work be undone, and, after all the whistles had been blown and hands shaken it was honours even with two wins each.
Sunday saw the tour party play in a mini festival at Bude where once again four matches were played. Taking on the two Bude teams, Frampton Cotterell and Creossillicolig, the Withy side put on a show of rugby that drew praise from all other coaches, parents and supporters. What’s more the youngsters showed a fun side to their game by putting down a challenge to the other sides with their own version of the Haka. All accepted with good humour and style. Really strong performances from all saw the ball won or turned over on many occasions leading to plenty of tries for large crowd to enjoy. And again at the end of all games Withycombe had won three out of four to have the best record of any team on the day.
The award of Player of the Tour went to Jack McBryan, whose dancing during a break in play at Bideford seemed to utterly confuse the home side!
