Withycombe Under-7s finally returned to action with a series of games against visiting Kingsbridge and a touring contingent from Bromsgrove.

The Withy youngsters were split into two teams playing alternate games. Strong running from Jamie Thompson got the Withies off to the perfect start against Kingsbridge, traditionally one of the strongest teams in Devon, and again he was backed up with tries from Charlie Tucker and Harry Dobrijevic. Kingsbridge fought back well to keep the difference to only two scores. This gap was maintained with the efforts of Kieran Long who again showed to tag, with full length dives to deny three tries. Harry Dobrijevic got the Withies final score as they closed out the game 10-7.

As the second game started it was apparent that Withy side again had the measure of the Kingsbridge side. Scores from Ben Jeffery and Jack Macdonald- Brown got the Withies into an early lead that they never relinquished. Again Kings plugged away at the Withy line and were mainly repelled. However, they did score three before half time, but Withy were not to be denied and further scores from Max Rowley and Otto Montgomery-Ames, all set up by the deft passing of Thomas Lawrence, kept them out of reach and they went onto record another success 8-6.

Withy then played a pair of games against Bromsgrove and these were two well-contested affairs with Withy again enjoying a win double to the tune of 8-6 and 7-5 triumphs.

That’s the end of the competitive rugby for this season and it has proved to be a magnificent first once for the youngest Withy side.

Overall the team has played 15 matches, winning 13 and drawing two, so have remained unbeaten the whole campaign!

Withy try scorers: Jamie Thompson 9, Jack Macdonald-Brown, Otto Montgomery-Ames, Max Rowley 4, Kieran Long, Ben Jeffery 3, Harry Dobrijevic, Abigail Cook 2, Charlie Tucker, Thomas Lawrence 1.
