Withycombe RFC Junior section set for big open day event.

A JUNIORS Open Day at Withycombe RFC, Raleigh Park, is planned for the final Sunday of the month, writes Iain Cooper.

The event, set to run between 11am and 2pm on Sunday, June 27, is aimed at throwing open the doors of the club to the wider community in the hope of attracting new youngsters to get involved in rugby.

Withy are particulary looking to further expand their alreay thriving youth set-up with the introduction of new teams covering the ages of under-7 through to under-15.

Currently Withy have sides at under-7, 8, 9 and 15 age groups.

There are aleady coaching staff in place at under-12 level and the club are particularly keen to attract more players to this age group, with a fixture list already in place from January 2011 following planned squad training through the autumn.

The open day is planned as a fun day with an emphasis very much on introducing families and new players alike to life at Withycombe, always known as a welcoming friendly rugby club in the heart of the community.

Coaches, players and club officials will be on hand to answer any questions.

Activities around the pitch will include informal rugby skills competitions such as agility running, place kicking, rugby golf, rugby darts and fun on the tackle bags as well as an introduction to TAG rugby for younger players and new girls-only TAG from age nine upwards.

Prizes will be awarded and free boot bags with the WRFC logo on will be up for grabs to all new members. There will also be a BBQ and the bar will also open.
