Withycombe made it nine from nine in the Tribute Cornwall and Devon League with a 46-13 mauling of Falmouth
The Cornish side took the lead with a 10th minute penalty, but that was as good as it got for the visiting with their powerful pack orchestrating things.
A scrum against the head gave quick blindside ball to stand-off Gunboat Channing to chalk up try number one in the corner. A successful penalty was followed by good hands from the forwards to give Matt Bragg a debut try, and action that also saw major parts played by Liam Cullen and thee evergreen Dave Sims.
Falmouth hit back with a penalty on 29 minutes before Withy put the game to bed with an explosive ten minute spell. Channing touched down for his second try, number eight Mike Richards powered over and a break from a midfield scrum by Richards then played man of the match Eugene Badenhorst in, but the South African was penalised for a double movement in the act of scoring.
John Parkin scored next under the posts before a stunning move launched by Badenhorst continued with good link play from the Parkin brothers, Jack Puglsey and again prior to Joe Parkin going over to leave Withy holding a 34-6 half-time lead.
After the break things slowed before Channing’s pass released Aaron Conway and Danny Sansom added his name tot the try scoring. The visitors’ were next to land a try and then they took advantage of the sin binning of Kevin Rodwell to add further scores.
The final word fell to Badenhorst who ripped the ball from a Falmouth player on the the visitor’s five metre line, before charging through two people for another try.
On Saturday Withy visit Teignmouth in the Devon Intermediate Cup and a week later it’s another crunch league encounter at second-placed Saltash.
