Withycombe Under-9s showed continued improvement in their visit to a fast and skilled Taunton.
In testing conditions all those in Withy colours put an honest shift in for thebcause.
Lewis Tose again showed great speed of mind and thought whilst with the willing receiving and running of Otto Montgomery-Ames and Jack Macdonald-Brown, the young Withies always posed a threat. The home side however were keeping just out of reach in the first two games with some very slick passing of their own. The spirit in this group should not be questioned and this was shown as Tyler Gover, Brendan Moore and Thomas Lawrence kept making good yards in attack. The latter having his best game this season. Ultimately it was not enough as Taunton registered wins in games one and two.
In game three the tackling of Jamie Thompson and Ben Jeffery came to the fore as the pair stopped almost everything that came before them! At the other end of the Somerset pitch wave after wave of Withy attacks took place with Charlie Tucker and Max Rowley taking the game to the hosts aided by some slick passing from Tose and Kieran Long.
In one impressive move Long served up a one-handed behind the back offload, much to the delight of the travelling fans!
Abigail Cotter again showed great awareness and pace and each time she got the ball she showed a clean set of heels to the chasing opposition players!
The Withy Man of the Match award went to Jamie Thompson who rounded his splendid mornings work a brace of tries.
This weekend the Withy youngsters are in action at Teignmouth.
