Withycombe were beaten 27-3 on their visit to Tribute Cornwall and Devon table-topping Wellington.

However, for a good half hour of the contest Withy were more than holding their own. Indeed, with 35 minutes on the clock and half-time beckoning, Withy led thanks to a 13th minute Glen Channing penalty.

However, in what remained of first-half time, Wellington ran in two tries to lead 15-3 at the interval.

A third try early in the second half took the Somerset side into a 22-3 lead and they added a fourth try late on to consign Withy to a 10th defeat of the league season.

The home team were forced to play all but seven minutes of the match a man short after a seventh minute red card was issued to Martin Walker!

On Saturday (March 17) Withy are again on the road with a trip to Tavistock.

The Withy ladies were beaten 15-0 by Newton Abbot ladies on Sunday afternoon and that win sealed for the visitors the South West South Two divisional title.
