Topsham book County Cup semi-final place

TOPSHAM booked a last four berth in the Devon Cup with a 35-19 win at Dartmouth.

The hosts began the brighter of the sides and a brace of early penalties gave them the advantage.

Topsham found a score of their own in the early exchanges when lock Rupert Stanning ran in a tap penalty from ten metres.

Skipper Jack Knowles slotted the conversion and the Tops took the lead for the first time, this a position of dominance they held through to the final whistle.

Number eight, player-coach, Colin Milkins then went over for the Tops second try and again Knowles tucked away the extras.

Back came the home side and, with the benefit of two successful penalties, got to within a couple of points of the Topsham total.

With their lead under threat the Tops found a new gear and struck a flurry of points, adding 21 to their score.

Leading try scorer Andy Brown crossed the Darts lien and then 17-year old flanker Andy Brown got in on the act whilst Jack Knowles, who converted the two afore mentioned tries, then scored on of his own and added the conversion too!

The home side did have the final word, but at 35-19 the Tops were left celebrating at full-time and preparing for a semi-final and the chance to pick up some silverware this season remains very much on for the Bonfire Field men.
