A trip to Astley Park, Brixham is never easy and so it proved once again for the Exmouth 2nd XV, who went down 38-21 to a strong home outfit.

For large parts of the game Exmouth dominated proceedings.

However, when on top they did not get the scores required, but, trailing 24-0 at the break, the Cockles did mount a spirited second half revival up the notorious slope.

Tries were scored by Connor Smithers, crossing the whitewash on his 2nd XV debut, Erin Inglis and Rich Cadywould and the trusty boot of Cadywould also saw to three successful conversions.

The Cockles’ cause was not helped by the loss of Will Hockin to injury, but, to a man, they gave their all.

Despite the reversal, Exmouth 2nds remain top of the Devon Merit Table One and this Saturday (December 8) they entertain eighth placed Crediton (2pm).
