Neath-Rogers and Dawson score try double in narrow defeat for Withy colts

Withycombe colts went down 37-33 in their meeting with Brixham.

Withy made a flying start, scoring a fourth-minute try from Vinnie Neath-Rogers and Jason Farrant slotted the conversion.

Brixham responded with a penalty, but Withy were soon back on the front foot and a period of sustained forward power ended with number 10 Ben Bolwell crossing the whitewash and again the Farrant conversion was clean for Withy to lead 14-3.

Brixham replied with a converted try, which was followed by a Ben Dawson try and then Brixham crossed the line twice more and, at half-time, Withy led 21-20.

Early in the second half Withy struck again with Farrant powering his way through and he converted his try to further extend the lead.

A key element to the Brixham game plan was the use of their large number of replacements and the ‘fresh legs’ made a big impact as three further tries were run in for Brixham to hold a 37-28 advantage.

Withy hit straight back and a second try from Dawson closed the deficit to one of just four points. However, despite a terrific late effort – the forwards gave their all to try to force a match-winning score – it was not to be and Brixham took the match honours, albeit by the narrowest of margins.
