Withycombe Under-9s hosted a triangular meeting with visiting sides Teignmouth and Cullompton.
The first game of the morning saw Withy take on Teignmouth, and, although the boys put in a good performance, it was Teignmouth who triumphed 15-0.
It was obvious that the muddy conditions were not favourable to either side, but it was the young Teigns who made better use of being able to recycle the ball a little quicker and they ended were worthy winners.
The second game saw Withy take on Cullompton who they were meeting for the first time. Once again the contest was even from first whistle to last, as reflected in a 10-10 score line.
Harry Bennett again showed his pace to score two good tries, but it was the tackling of Paddy McGuiness that saw him bag the Man of the Match award.
New boy Joe Cole slotted in well with some good tackles.
A Withy coach said: “The team always give a very good account of themselves, but must learn not to panic when under pressure. All in all, much credit must go to all three sides for putting in a good show of rugby in atrocious conditions.”
