AFTER four weeks of no matches due to waterlogged pitches, Nomads re-started their season with a friendly.Having beaten Crediton Quins in the league six weeks ago, and at something of a canter, Nomads travelled feeling very confident. However, Kirton's third string had other ideas and it made for a pulsating encounter. It was Nomads who opened the scoring with a Roger Nye try but the home side responded with a try of their own and a conversion.Nomads were controlling the ball playing up the slope but the home side broke and scored again.Once more the conversion went over and Kirton led 14-5. Just before half time, Number 8 Rob Lowe narrowed the score line with a try and Nomads went into the break trailing 14-10.The second half saw the Nomads use the advantage of the slope and they bossed proceedings. The home side defended well and there was an element of rustiness in the Nomads' play given their lack of recent action. With six minutes to go Rob Lowe broke down the right to score his second try, which was converted by Dean Bywood, and Nomads now led 15-14.In the dying minutes, hooker Roger Bolt scored the final try which was duly converted to leave Nomads 22-14 winners. This weekend Nomads have a league game against Honiton 2nds that kicks off at 2.15pm.
