Withycombe Under-7s in action against Honiton

Withycombe Under-7s drew 7-7 and were then edged out 7-5 by hosts Honiton.

In the first game the two sides traded scores through to half-time when it was 4-4.

There was similar fare after the break with Withy putting together excellent phases.

They were however, guilty of unforced errors that allowed the hosts to match them score for score with the eventual outcome a 7-7 draw.

The second game saw Withy give an opportunity to many youngsters playing their first ever competitive games and all acquitted themselves very well under trying conditions.

The Honiton defence was extremely well marshalled and hard to break down, and, with a largely unchanged team from the first game they were able to take the lead with a couple of well worked tries.

Withycombe heads did not drop however and they managed to fight back to a half time of 2-2. After the break Honiton began to dominate as the Withies appeared to run out of steam, and this started to lead to errors creeping in.

But again, their never-say-die spirit was evident. With the scores level just three minutes from time, Honiton struck what proved to be the decisive score with a superb try.

Man of the Match for Withycombe was Jack Greaves for his endless running and try scoring.
